The MGM David Copperfield Theater Lobby

The MGM David Copperfield Theater Lobby

MGM - David CopperfieldIn 2013, the MGM Grand renamed the iconic Hollywood Theater as the David Copperfield Theater. This 1,800-square-foot classic theater features plush red booths and vaulted ceilings for impressive acoustics. With only 740 seats, every seat is the best seat in the house. David Copperfield is an American illusionist, and has been described by Forbes as the most commercially successful magician in history.

Copperfield’s television specials have won 21 Emmy Awards of a total 38 nominations. Best known for his combination of storytelling and illusion, Copperfield’s career of over 40 years has earned him 11 Guinness World Records, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a knighthood by the French government, and he has been named a Living Legend by the USA Library of Congress. Copperfield has so far sold 40 million tickets and grossed over $4 billion, which is more than any other solo entertainer in history.

Illusion Projects collaborated with David Copperfield and his design director, Homer Liwag, to create display pieces for the theater lobby. The displays included 2 granite podiums with museum quality display cabinets to house a unique bronze statue of the Attila character from the show and one of David’s 21 Emmy awards. The display bases were upholstered in archival quality fabric. Aluminum signs featured CNC machine frame edges and precision cut letters in a brushed aluminum finish. Plexiglas cover boxes encased each display.
