Illusion Projects has been asked how they get their prop saw blades to look so good.
They make a lot of blades and Tim had a certain vision for the way they should look so it reads to the audience as a circular saw blade. The team tried several different techniques to get what he was looking for and in the end it was decided that they needed to build their own machine to get the effect. So Illusion Projects built the Blade Machine. It’s a special device for creating the circular brushed finish on circular saw blades. They would show a photo of it but it’s a trade secret!
Like most magic secrets it’s so simple you’d be disappointed if you saw it anyway. The interesting thing is – part of the technique actually uses a woodworking tool. The effects are definitely worth it!
